Every few months I do some source recording of ambient sounds and archive them for use with my Bidule projects. Recently, I’ve become interested in recording organic and inorganic sounds at the same time . This translates to recording the ambient sounds with a specific concentration on maximizing the field of audio capture to include organic and inorganic material equally. This recording, however was designed to capture the sound outside our apartment as a storm passes. Mostly organic sounds.

A little while back, Peter Gabriel made available all the original multitrack recordings from his single “Shock the Monkey.” It was for a remix competition. My buddy Brian actually drew my attention to the site and gave me the files. I had planned to remix the files with BIDULE for some time and now I finally got around to doing it. So here it is, my remix of Shock the Monkey. It’s about 20:30. It’s not your hip-hop remix so you know…it’s a true manipulation of the loops, in the vein of the Found Sound records. Ambient electro-acoustic music. So you’ve been warned. It’s like zero gravity monkey shocking. Released August 22, 2007.

What do you get when two of the members of The Beasts of Burden can’t make it to a show? You get a crazy power-trio bonanza. I attempted to step it up a few notches while Brian Richard and Ryan Malinich played their little hearts out. This is a soundboard recording. Guitar mixed left, bass mixed right…per the soundman’s choice. It’s a great recording. Enjoy! Live at The Belmont in Hamtramck, MI.
