War In An Instant

I remember when I was small.
I remember when I was young.
I remember being taught to duck and cover.
And now as the jet planes move on-- they all have dropped their bombs
And the city has fell over and died.

I wonder how Mildred feels--I wonder if my wife saw it coming.
I can see her in the hotel room; I can see her watching television.
I imagine the broadcast stations must've been the first to go.
I can see her screaming as the screens with her family went black.
So this war in an instant has wiped the earth clean.
Only now will they recognize their mistakes.
And as the dust will clear, so will we help the ones alive.
And we will start to speak.
Share the words of the past.
