The Lessons We Have Learned

You speak with all your self-love. You speak with your haughtiness.
You make it known that you think you're the best.
You are nothing special. You are not a god.
Your perfect life is simply a façade.

Ride ride ride with a mind so high, and a soul that's long since burned
Will you ever alter your dead-man's walk and heed the lessons you have learned?

They say left field is for codgers, and right field is for loons,
and centerfield, well, that's where the flower's bloom.
Yet, we're floating down a river, a river where hate is spawn,
With the boat afloat and the captain dead and gone.

We're a thousand miles from healthy. We're a million miles from cheer.
We're a billion trillion miles from conquering our fear.
Have our prayer's been answered? Is that what we should say?
Yet, looking in ourselves we'll never find the way.

Ride ride ride with a mind so high, and a soul that's long since burned
Will we ever alter our dead-man's walk and heed the lessons we have learned?

Students, listen to your teachers when they try to tell you--
Listen to your teachers and learn.
