What You Were Expecting

So you took off down the road. You were so high and mighty.
You thought you knew it all. You were so revolting.
You've crossed the vacant space: you've conquered everything.
Somehow you still don't feel like you.

What were you expecting now that you're the one directing every moment of your day?
It seems that what you were expecting was a solitary way to bliss. Just not this.

I sing because I can. Not because I need to.
Or because I'd please you all. There are too many of you.
I saw the vacant flow but conquered nothing at all.
And somehow I'm still content with what I do.

What were you expecting now that you're the one directing every moment of your day?
It seems that what you were expecting was a solitary way to bliss. Just not this.

So you left in dark despair with you spoiled intentions.
And despite all that you've achieved, there's still apprehension.
You've crossed the vacant space: you've conquered everything.
Somehow you still don't feel like you.

Oh, What were you expecting now that you're the one directing every moment of your day?
It seems that what you were expecting was a solitary way to bliss and not this.
