Advances in Humanity

It was only yesterday morning; I woke in a fit of fright.
I could not remember the name that I had
or the place where I'd spent the night
I walked past the nuclear shelter.
I walked past the cellular phone.
I walked past the power our species delivered
and I wished I could find my way home.

I passed the genetic mutations.
I passed the strive for control.
I passed a generation of people inept.
A process that's taken its toll.
I wonder why people believe in themselves
when it's them that they wish to destroy.
'Cause we're not playing games like we used to be.
Instead, the world is our toy.
