Did You Really Expect a Smile?

I guess you somehow expected to see me down;
Still paying all my dues and be a little confused.
But I was hit unfazed and you were quite amazed,
That I could be out to kick you when your down.
But this is how you trained me; this is how you treated me:
You schooled me in the works of un-supporting cruelty.
You said I was judging. You said I wasn't listening.
Now it's time for me to tell you just what I learned…

I learned to stay above you have to disregard love.
You have to turn it off; you have to turn and cough.
I got the opinion love is being cruel from you.
You gave me all my pain; you brought me into the game,
But now you're standing there, so I give you the same.
Did you really expect a smile from me?

I used to love it all; that was before the fall;
Before you gave me that apple to eat.
So, Eve, you're back in town, hoping I will expound.
But forgive me, if I don't bow down and grovel at your feet.

I learned to stay above you have to disregard love.
You have to turn it off; you have to turn and cough.
I got the opinion love is being cruel from you.
You gave me all my pain; you brought me into the game,
But now you're standing there, so I give you the same.
Did you really expect a smile from me?
