Bread Beard Read
From 2006 LP Mike Vasas and The Beasts of Burden

There was terror in the classroom as he raised his hands and voice.
The black outside inked out the sky and he offered up a choice
They could swallow his possession or be forsaken evermore.
Either darkness at his table, or dinner in the storm.

As they wept in joy and honor at the path to follow through,
The words are set for all to speak and just how to say them, too.
It is set in stone and practiced just how the call ensues
The hands of God are waving and the sheep know what to do.

Oh, I am an lonely I am Hamlet, I forgot my place.
It’s good to see my feelings are off base.
I am lonely I am Hamlet, passive as a stone.
Thinly veiled sympathy, the Pharisees my friends.
