Rescue Team/Makeshift

November, 2005

This EP came about from a need to promote the new material we were playing at shows. We set ourselves a time table which was unnecessary. This led to the release of new material, some of which we never intended to play live. I quite enjoy the EP though. In fact, so everybody knows, the EP tracks that ended up on the first Beasts of Burden record are not the same takes as on the full length. Rescue Team actually is far more space-rock on this version and makeshift is different too. Shells is very VERY simple this time around.

The other two tracks included were songs I had laying around that I had worked on since the end of Grace/The City. The Wasted Drink actually was far older. I had written it for a short film back in 2000/2001. The film eventually was released and the song was used in a cool way, but I never had a reason to release the song on any of my releases. It never fit on anything I was doing (except maybe 451, but I couldn't fit failed bar-romance into 451, sorry everybody). I always liked it (it's sort of a proto-ambient tune before I got into ambient music) so I threw it on here. It actually predicts much of the ambient-rock we did on The Beasts of Burden record.
